8 Rohingyas arrested in Tripura

The Rohingyas revealed that they had fled from the refugee camp in Bangladesh and crossed the border without any valid documents.

8 Rohingya refugees who strayed into India from Bangladesh have been arrested from the Agartala railway station. Those arrested arrested include 3 minors. The Rohingya refugees were waiting to board a train to the national capital when they were apprehended by the police.

During interrogation, the Rohingyas revealed that they had fled from the refugee camp in Bangladesh at Cox Bazaar and crossed the border without any valid documents. Further, they revealed that an agent had promised them work in New Delhi.

Police though did not find valid passports but they possessed United Nations High Commissioner Refugees issued cards which describe them as forcibly displaced Myanmar national and persons of concern to UNHCR.

A case under the Passport Act has been registered against the Rohingyas.

Earlier, 7 Rohingyas including three women were arrested at Ambassa in Tripura’s Dhalai district on Friday.
