The Ministry of Home Affairs in a detailed 150-page affidavit said that,"It is a “focused law”. SC to hear matter today.

The Centre has urged the Supreme Court to dismiss pleas challenging the validity of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).

The Centre in it’s submission to the Apex Court said that the CAA is a “narrow” piece of legislation that does not encourage “illegal migration” in Assam or any future influx of foreigners in the country.

The Ministry of Home Affairs in a detailed 150-page affidavit said that,”It is a “focused law” that grants citizenship only to members of six specified communities who came on or before December 31, 2014 and does not affect the legal, democratic or secular rights of any Indian.”

Meanwhile, the matter will be heard today by a bench of the Supreme Court, headed by the Chief Justice of India Uday Umesh Lalit.
