Tripura: War of words over rape cases
First Published: 27th October, 2022 18:03 IST
The war of words at the political level has escalated over two rape cases. The Congress as well as the CPI(M) has decried govt's action.
The Opposition CPIM and its affiliated students organizations SFI & Tribal Student’s Union blocked the entrance of Tripura police headquarters in Agartala today. This was a part of the massive protest against two cases of alleged gang-rape in the state in last 1 week.
The opposition is alleging the hand of ruling party supporters and even a minister’s son in the case.
The protesters alleged that the state administration and police are silent and inactive as everyday such incidents are increasing.
Meanwhile, addressing the media at the state BJP headquarters senior party leader and Information and Cultural Affairs minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the allegations against the ruling party were made with vested interests. Chowdhury added that police did not find any link of the minister’s son in the cases.
The allegation against the minister’s son was levelled by Congress leader Ashish Kumar Saha.
CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Choudhury Wednesday took to social media and said the law and order situation is deteriorating in Tripura. He claimed that, there has been a sharp rise in crimes on women such as molestations, rapes and murders, involving leaders and workers of the ruling party.
The CPI(M) leaders also cited a second gang-rape in Khowai district three days back, where a girl, who was out to visit Kali Puja pandals, was abducted and gang-raped.
