Terrorism, corruption, drug trafficking, poaching & organized crime are the top agendas to be discussed
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that a safe and secure world is a shared responsibility while he was addressing the 90th INTERPOL meeting at the national capital. PM Modi highlighted that India can be a case study for the rest of the world in upholding diversity and democracy.
Prime Minister Modi lauded the INTERPOL and said that it has connected police organizations globally in 195 countries to uphold diversity and democracy. This is despite differences in the legal framework, PM Modi added.
Besides, Prime Minister during his address said, “There are many harmful globalized threats: terrorism, corruption, drug trafficking, poaching & organized crime. The pace of change of these dangers is faster than ever. When threats are global, the response cannot be just local. The world must come together to defeat them.”
PM Modi stated that Interpol is approaching a historic milestone as the organization will celebrate its 100 years next year.
“This is a call for universal cooperation to make the world a better place. India is one of the top contributors to the UN Peacekeeping Operations. From climate targets to COVID vaccines, India has shown the willingness to take the lead in any crisis,” PM Modi further said.
The Interpol General Assembly meeting is taking place in India after a gap of about 25 years. It was last held in 1997. India’s proposal to host the Interpol General Assembly in 2022 at New Delhi was accepted by the General Assembly with an overwhelming majority.
