Many a time, there are reports of timber smuggling being carried out by a gang of timber mafias in Arunachal Pradesh.
Even as the Supreme Court banned the felling of trees in the North East in 1996, smuggling of timber still continues to be rampant in business in the region.
Many a time, there are reports of timber smuggling being carried out by a gang of timber mafias in Arunachal Pradesh.
But what is the actual scenario and how far is this true?
Team Northeast Live brings exclusive ground zero reports from Arunachal Pradesh by tracking down a tractor-load of illegal logs being ferried without any valid documents during an investigation carried out in Namsai.
Surprisingly, the driver of the vehicle admitted openly before Northeast live that timber logs are cut every day in the reserve forests in Namsai and Lohit district and ferried to sawmills.
The movement of the vehicle through the national highway without any kind of fear clearly indicates that there has to be an illegal nexus between the illegal timber mafias and the authorities concerned.
