The elected members of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly will take the oath of office tomorrow. The oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected MLAs will begin at 11 am. The newly-elected MLAs include 32 from the BJP, 7 from NPP, 6 JD(U), 5 each from the Congress and the NPF, 2 from the KPA, and 3 independents.
In the meantime senior Manipur BJP leader and MLA elect from Lamshang seat Sorokhaibam Rajen Singh has been formally sworn-in as the pro-tem speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly. The oath of office was administered by the Governor of Manipur La Ganesan.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal. Caretaker Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Th. Biswajit Singh, Y. Khemchand Singh, Govindas Konthoujam, L. Sushindro Singh, Chief Secretary, DGP and other top officials attended the ceremony.
Notably, S. Rajen Singh has been appointed as the person before whom newly elected Members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly shall make and subscribe an oath of affirmation until a Speaker of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly is elected.
When asked about a new government formation in the State, he said that BJP is a disciplined Party and all elected Members will abide by the decision taken by the Party’s High Command.
