The Leader of Opposition in Meghalaya and TMC leader Mukul Sangma cautioned the government to ensure that the culmination of peace talks with the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) does not lead to a vacuum-like in the case of Garo Hills where there was a mushrooming of militants after a ceasefire was signed by the ANVC.

The outlawed outfit HNLC which has been operating in Meghalaya has expressed its willingness to come to the mainstream and its readiness to talk with the Government of India without any pre-condition and has decided to give peace a chance once again in the state.

This indeed is a crucial development after the peace process derailed following the alleged fake encounter of HNLC general secretary Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, who was assigned to carry forward the talks with the Government of India.
