A sizeable voters’ turnout of 78.03% was registered till 5 pm for the first phase of Manipur Assembly elections as voting took place under tight security cover in 1721 polling stations spread across 5 electoral districts. For the first phase 38 seats were in fray.

While elections were by and large peaceful in the Imphal valley, few incidents of EVM damage and alleged booth capturing attempts leading to preventive blank firing by security personnel were reported from 51-Saitu, 57-HengIep and 60-Singhat Assembly Constituencies.
The polling percentage till 5 PM was recorded at 78.03 %. Imphal East reported 76.64 % voter turnout while Imphal West recorded 82.19 %. Bishnupur recorded 73.44%, Churachandpur 74.45% while Kangpokpi recorded 82.19%. The final polling percentage will be available after the return of the polling parties.
The voting percentage is once again expected to cross the 85% mark.
