Sikkim to adopt modern farming technology to boost agriculture production

In a bid to provide modern farming facilities, the Sikkim government is all set to launch the much-awaited modern farming technology of Hydroponics, Aquaponics and Rooftop farming in the State.

In a bid to provide modern farming facilities, the Sikkim government is all set to launch the much-awaited modern farming technology of Hydroponics, Aquaponics and Rooftop farming in the State.

The modern farming technology will be launched by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang today at Sokeythang in Gangtok.

Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Lok Nath Sharma said that objectives for launching the newly developed farming technology of Aquaponics, Hydroponics and Rooftop farming are that it provide the much–needed support in enhancing productivity even in small private landholding and ensure financial benefits for the farmers.

According to the Agriculture Minister Hydroponics is the technique of growing plants without soil by using organic nutrients.

It is very beneficial for farmers because it assures higher yield and economic returns compared to natural agricultural practices.

He added that Aquaponics is an integrated food production system that combines raising fish in tanks with soilless plant culture.

He also appealed everyone to come forward to adopt the lucrative farming technology and assured to provide essential technical guidance by the authorities concerned of the department.
