Uttar Pradesh Marriage tragedy, 13 killed after falling into well while performing ritual

At least 13 women and children died after falling into a well in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district while performing a marriage ritual. 13 have reportedly died and 10 were injured.

13 have reportedly died and 10 were injured. The injured are currently admitted to the hospital.
The terrifying incident took place at Naurangiya Tola village when the pre-wedding ritual of “Haldi” was performed on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred when an iron grille in which some women and children were sitting broke, injuring at least ten people, said District Magistrate S Rajalingam.
Among the deceased are Shakuntala (35), Mamta Devi (35), Meera (25), Pooja (20), Pappi (20), Pooja (19), Manu (18), Radhika (16), Jyoti (15), Sundari (15), Shashi Kala (15), Aarti (10) and Pari (1).
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem and the case is being investigated. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives and described the incident as heart-rending. The Prime Minister also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
According to a state government spokesperson in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed district administration officials to ensure that the injured people receive proper treatment.
