The All India Congress Committee (AICC), as per well-informed sources, has given nod to suspend all five party MLAs in the state for extending support to the ruling MDA coalition.

Sources said that AICC has also served a show-cause notice to the MLAs over their move.

Soon after this development, all the five MLAs huddled for a 2-hour long closed-door meeting to discuss the further course of action.

The development comes after Meghalaya Congress president Vincent Pala wrote to the AICC recommending suspension of the MLAs.

If the five Congress MLAs decide to quit the party following the AICC move then the party will lose representation in the state legislative assembly for the first time.

Meanwhile, CLP leader Ampareen Lyngdoh refused to make any comment on the entire development. Lyngdoh maintained that she will speak at the right time.

It may be mentioned that on February 8 the five MLAs of Congress met with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and pledged their support to the NPP-led MDA government.

Ampareen Lyngdoh, P.T. Sawkmie, Mayralborn Syiem, Kimfa S Marbaniang, and Mohendra Rapsang are the five Congress MLAs.
