Chum Darang, actress and model from Arunachal Pradesh, is making headlines with her Bollywood debut, Junglee Productions’ “Badhaai Do.” The 29-year-old actress appears with Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar in the film.
Chum Darang plays Bhumi Pednekar’s love interest in the film. The movie is releasing today. Badhaai Do is an unconventional story, showing the journey of a lesbian woman and a gay man who marry each other as a setup to placate their parents.
In an interview, Chum Darang expressed that Bollywood was never in her plans, but getting this role thrilled her and gave her a lot of confidence.
Chum Darang represented India in many beauty pageants. In 2016, she competed in Miss Earth India and won the title of Miss Earth Water 2016. She then went on to represent India in the Miss Asia World 2017 beauty pageant, where she competed against girls from 24 countries and was placed fifth runner-up, earning the title of Miss Internet.

Chum Darang was finally crowned Miss Tiara India-International in 2017. She also won two subtitles with these, “Miss Sports Gear” and “Miss Best National Costume,” defeating 28 contestants from all across the world, including “USA,” and “Turkey,”.Chum Darang previously appeared in an ad promo alongside Akshay Kumar. She also got a small part in the Paatal Lok series.
Chum Darang’s story does not end here, as she successfully runs a coffee shop, “Café Chu,” in her hometown in Mirsam village, Pasighat, which she opened three years ago.
Chum Darang stated in a recent interview that she has always been handed cliché roles because she is from the Northeast. On her way to Bhadhaai Do audition, two boys shouted “Corona” at her, leaving her devastated. However, this occurrence turned out to be a blessing in disguise for her because she had to shout in the audition scene, where she could actually give her best performance.

Badhaai Do became a good experience for Chum Darang as the role she played was that of a lesbian, giving her tough challenges. She did not hesitate to get the part as the love interest of Bhumi Pedneker as she believed that she could stand the challenges. Regarding her co-stars, Darang said that sharing the screen with actors like Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar has been a learning experience.
