Army Chief MM Naravane today said that the internal inquiry into the December 4 Oting in Nagaland’s Mon district is in its final stage. The Army chief informed that the findings of the inquiry would be filed within a day or two.
Besides, Naravane also maintained that the Army is fully cooperating with the SIT formed by the Nagaland government to probe the incident.
Both the Court of Inquiry and the SIT are taking statements of wide sections of people involved in the incident so that there can be a better understanding of what had happened.
Army Chief MM Naravane said that appropriate action would be taken on the basis of the findings of the inquiry. Naravane clarified that the law of land is paramount, and action will be taken to uphold it. Not only this, Naravane reiterated that the Oting incident is highly regrettable. Naravane maintained that the Eastern Command was quick enough to respond and institute an inquiry into hte matter headed by a Major General.
Speaking on the security issue pertaining to Northeast, General MM Naravane said that there has been a marked improvement in the overall situation in the entire region. Considering this, formations of the Army have been disengaged from certain parts of the Northeast, added Naravane. however, the Army Chief termed the ambush on 46 Assam Rifles troopers in Manipur’s Churachandpur district as unfortunate. But this does not mean deterioration in law and order, stated Naravane.
