Meghalaya Deputy Minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday clarified that the RTPCR test report is mandatory at all the entry points of Meghalaya to safeguard the people of the State and keep them safe, healthy, infection-free, and away from the transmission.

He was replying to queries on the need for a negative RT-PCR test irrespective of the vaccination status. Tynsong said that the restriction has been put in place to screen people who are coming into Meghalaya where there is a higher prevalence of Covid infections.

He added that vaccination does not negate the possibility of reinfectation even though symptoms might be muted. “The vaccinated may be infected showing mild symptoms. Later they might infected their family and friends,” Tynsong said.

The state government had decided yesterday to re-impose night curfew starting January 5th in view of the surge in Omicron cases in various parts of the country. It has also decided to impose restrictions on gatherings besides putting in place the odd-even system for the movement of private vehicles.
