The proposed ‘Chakma-Hajong’ census in Arunachal Pradesh is  being vehemently opposed by members of both the communities.  Reacting on the matter, the president of the Chakma Mahila Samiti, Sumitra Chakma said that they will oppose the conducting of such survey tooth and nail and would not move from their homes.

Chief Minister Khandu has also asked concerned officials to look into other aspects as well for resolving the long pending Chakma Hajong issue. It may be mentioned that the development has taken place in a crucial meeting held between Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and the AAPSU leaders in itanagar.

Debate over ‘census’ Chakma-Hajongs has been going on for quite some time now. Whereas the APSU has been pushing for it, the Chakma-Hajong bodies of Arunachal are opposing it vehemently.  The matter has even reached the PMO with the Chakma Development Foundation of India (CDFI) filing a report in the PMO.
