CISF Inter Sector Wrestling Championship organised in Guwahati

In a bid to promote the sport of wrestling in the region, the 7th All India CISF Inter Sector Wrestling Competition 2021 was organized under the aegis of CISF North East Sector at the Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium in Guwahati yesterday.

A total of 41 wrestlers from across the country took part in the event which also included wrestlers of international repute such as Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Pawan Kumar, Asian Championship silver medallists Mandeep Chahar and Amit Kumar, World Championship participant Satpal Yadav among others.

Participants were drawn from 7 Sectors of the CISF namely North Sector, National Capital Region Sector, West Sector, Department of Atomic Energy Sector, South Sector, East Sector and Airport Sector.

The competition began with a colourful March Past by the participating members followed by a welcome address by SS Sarmah, Deputy Inspector General, CISF, North East Zone, Guwahati.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the event, Dharamvir Singh, Coach, Central Wrestling Team, CISF spoke on the need to inculcate the spirit of wrestling among the youth of the Northeast region.

Meanwhile, CISF South Sector’s Gaurav Chillar, who was adjudged winner in the 125kg freestyle category said that exposing children to the benefits of wrestling at a young age would go a long way in promoting the sport in the region. Chillar added that if more and more wrestling competitions are organised then the northeast will also turn into a wrestling hub of the nation, much like Punjab and Haryana.
