Just a day after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assured that his state will not encroach upon an inch of Mizoram land, the Mizoram government on Monday once again

Just a day after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assured that his state will not encroach upon an inch of Mizoram land, the Mizoram government on Monday once again accused Assam police personnel and officials of rampant encroachment on its territory.

Breaking its silence on the fresh escalation on the interstate border, Mizoram today accused Assam of engaging in renewed violent acts by incursion into its soil.

Addressing a press conference in Aizawl, state home minister Lalchamliana said that though Mizoram does not want to strike the first blow, it is ready to take any measures to protect its territory.

The minister added that the Assam government must pay compensation for damaging a large number of standing crops destroyed during the alleged intrusion by police personnel from the state.

The Mizoram home minister informed that a large number of state police personnel have been deployed at the inter-state border area to safeguard the lives and properties of the people.

He also appealed to political parties and other organisations in the state not to indulge in a blame game or to take mileage out of the border disputes, but to remain united in the issue.

Mizoram shares over 160 kilometre long border with Assam and the dispute continues to simmer for years.

Mr Lalchamliana was accompanied by School Education Minister Lalchhandama Ralte, Information and Public Relations Minister Lalruatkima, legislator of Serlui constituency Lalrinranga Ralte, Home Secretary Lalbiaksangi and acting DGP John Neihlaia in the press meet.
