Amidst surge in COVID-19 cases, the Manipur government on Friday decided to impose 24-hour curfew in seven districts for nine days to check spread of Coronavirus.
The curfew will be in force in the districts starting May 8 till May 17. For rest of the state, night curfew from 7 pm to 5 am shall remain in place.
The Home Department order issued by Chief Secretary MH Khan said that “increasing trend in the spread of infection has become even steeper and has spread to other parts of the state necessitating additional restrictions and also in additional areas in the interest of the public health.”
As per reports, Curfew will come into force in the districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur Thoubal, Kakching, Churachandpur and Ukhrul.
The restriction has been imposed under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
However, all essential services and people going out for Covid testing and vaccination have been exempted from the order.
Earlier, a complete ban on the movement of vehicles was ordered in Greater Imphal and areas under Imphal Municipal Council (IMC), permitting movement of essential services.
In the last 24 hours, 515 new cases and two deaths were registered in the northeastern state.
