The advisory has been issued in view of the upcoming festivals such as Holi, Bihu, Easter and Eid-ul-Fitr etc. The notification strongly advised the states to issue local restrictions and not allow mass gatherings during any of these festivals.

Centre has also urged states to strictly adhere to SoPs issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and stick to COVID-19 appropriate behaviour to limit the transmission of the coronavirus.

India detected a new double mutant variant of the coronavirus from Maharashtra in a big dampener amid fresh spike in coronavirus cases in the country.

Over 47,000 positive cases were reported on Wednesday, the highest ever recorded in over four months.
