Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Thursday informed the state assembly that the construction of the Bailey bridge across the Umiam river is expected to be completed by March 31.

The Deputy Chief Minister responding to a query raised by Umroi MLA, George V Lyngdoh during the question and answer round in the state assembly, stated that that the construction and launching of the Bailey bridge is being taken up jointly by the concessionaire and the Border Roads Organisation.

Moreover, there is no projected cost for the construction as the work is done under Change of Scope system.

It may be mentioned that the Dwarksuid Bridge in Shillong bypass had taken the beating of overloaded trucks and weakened following which the Bailey bridge is being constructed and the movement of trucks diverted via Shillong.
