Meghalaya registers 7th COVID-19 death; 93 fresh cases recorded

Meghalaya registered another COVID-19 related death on Saturday, taking the death toll in the state to seven.

A 58-year-old resident of Jhalupara in Shillong succumbed to the infection at a COVID-19 hospital on Friday night.

Informing this, Director of Health Services, Dr Aman War said that the patient was diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) case and was referred from Woodland hospital to Shillong Civil Hospital. Acute Respiratory Disorder Syndrome (ARDS) due to COVID-19 and underlying ailments as diabetes and hypertension has been determined to be the cause of death.

Meanwhile, the state’s caseload rose to 1,811 with the detection of 93 new cases on Saturday. The total active cases stands at 1,035.

Of the fresh cases, 66 cases have been reported from East Khasi Hills, 10 from West Khasi Hills, 9 from West Garo Hills, 2 from Ri- Bhoi, 2 from North Garo Hills and 4 cases from East Jaintia Hills.

Twenty more patients have recovered from the disease today, taking the total number of recoveries to 769.
