Three Assam Rifles personnel were martyred and at least 5 others injured in an ambush by suspected militants in Manipur on Wednesday night.

As per sources, the dastardly incident took place in Manipur’s border district of Chandel last night when the troopers of 4th Assam Rifles were in a patrol. The ambush took place in a village called Sajik Tampak which is around 4 Kms from the Myanmar border.

As per sources, the insurgents, suspected to be from the PLA, first exploded an IED as the troopers were returning to their base after the area domination patrol, and followed it up with indiscriminate firing with small arms.

The deceased Assam Rifles personnel have been identified as Havildar Pranay Kalita, Rifleman Ratan Salam and Rifleman Methna Konyak.

5 other jawans who were injured in the incident have been shifted to the military hospital.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended on the residence of Pranay Kalita. Kalita, a resident of Ghatbar Saderi in Bajali, left behind his wife and two daughters.
