Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured that the Centre will do all it can to fast track growth in Mizoram.

Shah, who is on his first visit to the state after becoming the Union Home Minister, said Mizoram will receive a major boost in road connectivity with 1700 kms of national highway to be constructed in the state.

Shah assured that the state will also be connected by broad gauge by 2021. The Union Home Minister was addressing a gathering at the Government Mizo High School at Zarkawt, Aizawl after inauguration of the Northeast Handloom and Handicraft Exhibition.

Earlier upon his arrival in Aizawl, Shah was received by Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga. The Union Home Minister is accompanied by DoNER minister Jitendra Singh. Meanwhile, NEDA convenor and Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been camping in Aizawl since last evening.

Amit Shah’s visit is seen as a part of Centre’s bid to build consensus through talks with groups and the civil society in the Northeast on the introduction of the revised Citizenship Amendment Bill.

Currently Shah is holding a meeting with the NGO coordinaton committee members at the Raj Bhawan in Aizawl.
