The Northeast Forum for Indigenous People in its central executive council meeting has threatened to launch a massive stir against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill all across the Northeast.

The NEFIP has cleared its stand on the issue after recent statements made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma saying that a revised version of the contentious Bill would be introduced in the Winter Session of the Parliament.

NEFIP president Ningthouja Lancha spoke exclusively to Northeast Live in this regard. Lancha said that NEFIP would begin its series of agitations from October 3rd marking the beginning of the campaign against the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

General secretary Robert June Kharjarin said that introduction of the revised version of the Bill will only escalate the woes for the region which is already plagued by the menace of illegal migrants.

Meanwhile, NEIFP advisor Khuleswar Lagachu also slammed the Centre’s idea to push for the Bill.
