Protests have broken out in various parts of Assam over 58 thousand members of the Koch Rajbongshi community being left out of the NRC final list.
Members of the All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union (AKRSU) called for a 12-hour long shutdown and held protests in different parts of the state.
The protestors demanded that all the Koch Rajbongshis left out of the NRC be unconditionally inducted into it.
The AKRSU protestors were seen burning tyres on the highway at Demow in Sivasagar district. The protest at Demow led to a brief altercation with the police which led to many of the protestors being arrested.
Meanwhile, protests also broke out in Morigaon district where protestors burnt tyres on the road and stopped vehicular movement in Morigaon town and Jagiroad.
Meanwhile, protests are also being held in various places of Baksa district.
