The Government of Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday held a closed door meeting with the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) to address concerns related to illegal immigrants and Chakma-Hajong refugees.
The talks follow AAPSU’s protest rally held on June 16, during which a memorandum was submitted to the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah through the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. AAPSU in the memorandum demanded immediate deportation or relocation of illegal immigrants, citing demographic threats, land encroachment, and misuse of tribal welfare schemes.
The high level meeting which lasted for over three hours was chaired by Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister, Mama Natung.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, AAPSU President Dozi Tana Tara said, “Today’s meeting was focused on the refugee issue and the challenges faced by our indigenous people. Detailed outcomes will be shared once the minutes are officially released.”
However, Home Minister Mama Natung did not make any public statement after the meeting.
