Meghalaya: The teen was not only brutally assaulted but was also forced to drink water from a toilet while in custody.

In a deeply disturbing incident from Meghalaya, a 19-year-old youth was allegedly subjected to severe custodial torture inside the Sohra Police Station.

According to media reports, the teen was not only brutally assaulted but was also forced to drink water from a toilet while in custody.

The incident came to light after his mother, who had accompanied Getwin to the police station around 9 am on July 6 following a report that police were looking for him, returned later in the evening to find her son in a severely injured condition.

Shocked and traumatised, the mother of the youth rushed her son to the Sohra Community Health Centre. Given the severity of his injuries, he was later shifted to Civil Hospital Shillong for further medical treatment.

Alleging blatant human rights violations, the teen’s mother filed a complaint with the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) and the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills. She has called for a swift, impartial, and transparent probe into the alleged torture.

The incident has sparked outrage, highlighting growing concerns over alleged police high-handedness and abuse of power in the region. The family now awaits justice and accountability for the brutal treatment meted out to the young man.
