Despite making desperate calls to the tea estate management and the health department, no ambulance arrived on time

A pregnant woman tragically died in Deamoolie Tea Estate of Tinsukia district of Assam after an ambulance failed to arrive on time.

The incident happened on Saturday.

Locals and the woman’s family members alleged that she went into labour and was forced to deliver the baby at home due to the complete lack of timely medical assistance.

Despite making desperate calls to the tea estate management and the health department, no ambulance arrived on time. She gave birth at home under distressing conditions, and by the time a vehicle finally arrived and rushed her to the civil hospital, it was too late she had succumbed.

The heartbreaking incident has triggered massive protests, with angry residents staging a sit-in outside the tea garden factory, carrying the woman’s body and demanding justice.

“Had there been an ambulance, she could have been saved,” a local said

The Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS), Deamoolie Committee has come down heavily on the tea estate management, alleging that the estate has no ambulance facility available for emergencies, which directly led to the tragic death of the pregnant woman.

The union has blamed the company for gross negligence and for failing to provide even the most basic healthcare support.

The ACMS is now demanding that the company take full responsibility for the loss and provide immediate financial compensation and long-term support to the bereaved family.
