Security forces on Saturday killed one NSCN militant during a fierce encounter in a thickly forested area near Khogla village under Wakka circle in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh. The joint team of the Army’s Special Forces and the Assam Rifles launched a massive search operation in the area based on intelligence inputs about the presence of a heavily armed group of NSCN militants.
Dekio Gumja, Superintendent of Police of Longding district, confirmed that the body of the slain militant was recovered by the security personnel after the gunfight. The location, which falls under Tissa police station, is situated close to the Indo-Myanmar border.
During the ongoing search operation, the security team recovered a large cache of arms and explosives. These include 15 kilograms of Improvised Explosive Device (IED), 34 detonators, two .22 pistols along with two magazines, and several camp materials used by the militants.
Sources said that the encounter broke out when the militants, believed to be part of a 7 to 8-member group, opened fire on the approaching security forces. The troops retaliated strongly, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. While one militant was neutralised, the rest managed to flee into the dense forest.
Security forces have launched a massive combing operation in the area to track down the remaining militants and ensure the area is cleared of any threats.
