CM Manik Saha Breaks Silence After Tipra Motha’s Threat to Quit Alliance Over Tiprasa Accord Delay

The recent developments have triggered political speculation about the future of the alliance.

Amid Tripra Motha threatening to pull out from the alliance, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday said his government has not received any official communication from the alliance partner regarding such a move.

Speaking to reporters during a public outreach programme at Santipara in Agartala marking 11 years of the Narendra Modi government, Saha said, “What their party members say is their matter, but I haven’t received anything in writing.”

When asked about Tipra Motha leaders expressing frustration over the delay in implementing the Tiprasa Accord, the Chief Minister added, “I am in regular talks with the Tipra Motha supremo. The process is ongoing.”

Political tension has escalated after Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma on Saturday warned of withdrawing support from the government over the delay in fulfilling the promises of the Accord and the failure to stop infiltration. Hours later, BJP Rajya Sabha MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb visited Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma at the Ujjayanta Palace.

Both leaders called it a “courtesy visit” to convey belated birthday wishes to Pradyot, who turned a year older on Friday. However, Pradyot later clarified that his MLA’s comments reflected “frustration” and “a genuine sense of disappointment and insecurity” among indigenous communities, especially in remote areas.

The Tiprasa Accord, signed in March 2024 as part of the BJP-Tipra Motha alliance agreement, aimed to provide political autonomy and development for Tripura’s tribal population. But Tipra Motha leaders have raised concerns over the lack of concrete action, especially in curbing cross-border infiltration and securing constitutional guarantees for the community.

The recent developments have triggered political speculation about the future of the alliance. However, sources said the BJP-led government remains stable, as the party holds a clear majority in the 60-member Tripura Assembly.
