Teacher Crisis Deepens in Arunachal’s Longding, Students Protest Political Interference

Despite the Arunachal Pradesh government’s repeated claims of prioritising education, schools in Longding district continue to suffer from a severe shortage of teachers.
The Longding District Students’ Union (LDSU) has accused the state government of a total failure in addressing the issue and blamed political interference for the poor state of education in the district.
To protest the ongoing teacher crisis, students from various schools across the district staged demonstrations under the banner of LDSU. They demanded the immediate appointment of adequate teaching staff, including Principals, Vice Principals, and Headmasters.
LDSU leaders revealed that the government had appointed nine teachers around two months ago, covering institutions from lower primary to higher secondary level. However, none of the teachers joined their posts. Recently, the government appointed 11 more teachers, but only one of them reported for duty. According to the union, the rest used political influence to avoid joining their assigned schools.
“This is the current state of affairs in Longding’s schools,” LDSU leaders said, expressing deep frustration over the lack of commitment and transparency in teacher deployment.
Adding to their grievances, the union also pointed out the absence of a college in the district. Students who complete their secondary education have no option for higher studies within Longding and are forced to leave the district in search of opportunities.
The union warned the government that it would launch a series of more intense agitations in the coming days if authorities continue to ignore their demands. The LDSU called for immediate intervention by the state education department to ensure that appointed teachers join their posts without political manipulation and that a government college is established in Longding without further delay.
The students stressed that they are not asking for favours, but fighting for their basic right to quality education.
