Tipra Motha Skips Oath-Taking Ceremony, Cites Late Intimation and Kharchi Puja Commitments

Currently, Tipra Motha has two ministers in the state cabinet.

Tipra Motha, the key ally in the BJP-led government in Tripura, did not attend the oath-taking ceremony of Kishore Barman, who was sworn in as a new cabinet minister on Thursday at Raj Bhavan.

The event saw the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, senior BJP leaders, and other cabinet ministers. However, the absence of Tipra Motha ministers and MLAs drew attention, with many curious about the reason behind it.

Clarifying the situation, Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma said that there was no misunderstanding or issue involved. He said that the party members were informed about the ceremony only late the previous night, and most of the MLAs were already in their respective constituencies for Kharchi Puja, an important religious festival in the state.

“There is nothing. I came to know about the event late last night at around 9:30 PM. I spoke to the Chief Minister and informed him that I wouldn’t be able to attend as I would not be reaching the Agartala in morning. Most of our MLAs are also busy with the Kharchi Puja in their constituencies. This is a cabinet reshuffle within the BJP, and it has nothing to do with Tipra Motha. It shouldn’t be seen as a boycott,” Debbarma stated.

Currently, Tipra Motha has two ministers in the state cabinet.

While the party has clarified its position, political observers are keeping a close watch on the alliance dynamics, especially in the backdrop of ongoing discussions regarding tribal issues and governance priorities in the state.
