Manipur: SAHILCA Imposes Total Ban on Forest and State Government Activities in Kangpokpi

First Published: 2nd July, 2025 21:04 IST

SAHILCA made it clear that the Forest Department of Manipur must cease all activities within Sadar Hills

In a strong escalation of protest amid the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur, the Sadar Hills Chiefs’ Association (SAHILCA) has imposed a total ban on all Forest Department operations and state government programmes within the Kangpokpi district.

The ban, effective immediately, was announced as a mark of sharp opposition to what the association described as “insensitive and provocative” government actions during a time of continuing unrest.

SAHILCA made it clear that the Forest Department of Manipur must cease all activities within Sadar Hills, citing a deep mistrust in the government’s initiatives amid the current conflict.

The chiefs’ association further extended the ban to cover all state-led programmes, declaring that no outreach activities by the Government of Manipur would be permitted in Kuki-Zo areas of Kangpokpi until peace is restored.

SAHILCA has directed the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) to refrain from implementing the state government’s flagship outreach initiatives, including “Go to Hills” and “Go to Villages,” in all Kuki-Zo areas of the district.

SAHILCA’s decision highlights the growing discontent among Kuki-Zo communities toward the state’s handling of the ongoing conflict.

The association urged all government departments and officials to respect the directive, warning that failure to do so could lead to further deterioration of peace and public safety in the district.
