2 Prime Accused of Bokakhat Grenade Blast Injured in Police Firing

Initial investigations into the attack by Golaghat police, however, did not indicate the involvement of any organised militant outfit.

Two prime accused of June 24 grenade blast incident at Bokakhat was injured in a firing incident on Sunday night.

According to police, the prime accused Bhabesh Kalita and Sanjiv Baruah were taken by a police team to Panbari area in Golaghat district to recover a hidden pistol. When they reached the spot, Bhabesh Klaita and Sanjiv Baruah started firing at the police team using the pistol that was hidden.

The police retaliated, during which both the accused were injured. While Bhabesh Kalita sustained bullet injury on his left leg, Sanjiv Baruah got hit on his right leg. They were taken to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Bhavesh Kalita of Tezpur, Sanjiv Barua of Lakhimpur were arrested along with Rupjyoti Das, Ankur Das and his two brothers—Pankaj Das and Kaku Das in connection with the June 24 grenade blast incident at Bokakhat in which three Assam Police personnel git injured. Police also recovered 2 grenades and a pistol from their possession.

While addressing a press conference on June 27, Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the arrest unearthed a larger conspiracy.

Chief Minister Sarma said that the accused were plotting coordinated blasts in Golaghat, Tezpur, Guwahati, and Lakhimpur, raising concerns about the broader intent behind the attack.

Initial investigations into the attack by Golaghat police, however, did not indicate the involvement of any organised militant outfit.
