Bhutan Defeats Bodoland XI in Thrilling International Women’s Football Friendly at Kokrajhar

The highlight of the competition was a friendly match between the Bhutan Senior National Women’s Team and the Bodoland XI (India).
An international women’s friendly football competition was held at the SAI Field in Kokrajhar, bringing together sports enthusiasts and dignitaries for an exciting display of talent and cross-border friendship through football.
The Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), in collaboration with the Kokrajhar District Sports Association, organised the event. The highlight of the competition was a friendly match between the Bhutan Senior National Women’s Team and the Bodoland XI (India).
In a closely contested and competitive match, the Bhutan Senior National Team emerged victorious against Bodoland XI, showcasing their preparation and determination ahead of their international fixtures.
Speaking to reporters after the match, Ganga Ram Ghalley, Youth Director of the Bhutan Football Federation, Gelephu, expressed satisfaction over the performance and the facilities. He said, “Our players are preparing for international qualifiers in Jordan, and this match served as a great practice opportunity. Although it was arranged at the last minute, we got to play on a wonderful natural grass field, which we don’t have back home. The match was very competitive, and we saw many good players in the Bodoland (India) team as well.”
The event drew attention and appreciation from various dignitaries, including BTR Executive Member Daobaisa Boro and Bhutan Football Federation’s Ganga Ram Ghalley, who graced the occasion and praised the efforts in promoting women’s football in the region.
It maybe mentioned here that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had yesterday lauded football events in Bodoland and how it is not just a tournament but a celebration of unity and hope.
