Actor Shefali Jariwala Passes Away at 42: A Look Back at Her Life and Career

Actor Shefali Jariwala passed away at the age of 42 on Friday night. According to a report by India Today, she died following a sudden cardiac arrest. Her husband, actor Parag Tyagi, immediately rushed her to the hospital, but doctors declared her dead upon arrival.

Best known for her sensational rise to fame with the 2002 music video ‘Kaanta Laga’, Jariwala was a familiar face in Hindi music videos, reality television, and Bollywood cameos. Her popularity soared in recent years after her appearance in ‘Bigg Boss 13’ in 2019.

Born on December 15, 1982, in Mumbai, Jariwala pursued her education at Sardar Patel College of Engineering, graduating with a degree in Computer Applications. She first got married in 2004 to Harmeet Singh of the musical duo Meet Bros, but the couple parted ways in 2009.

In an interview with Times Now, Jariwala spoke about her past relationship, stating, “Not every kind of violence is physical. There is a lot of mental violence that also happens, and you are very unhappy in your life.”

She later entered into a relationship with late actor Sidharth Shukla, and even after their breakup, they remained on friendly terms. In a 2020 interview with Bollywood Life, she reflected on their connection, saying, “We would talk about travel, space, bullet trains and whatnot. Even after we stopped dating, we were always cordial.”

In 2015, Shefali married Parag Tyagi, a television actor known for his roles in Indian soaps.

Shefali Jariwala became a household name after starring in ‘Kaanta Laga from the album DJ Doll – Kaanta Laga Remix. The song, originally composed by R.D. Burman sung by Lata Mangeshkar, was a remix of the 1972 classic and captivated audiences with Jariwala’s bold and energetic screen presence.

She reprised her appearance in ‘Kaanta Laga – The Return in 2004, and also featured in ‘Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar Remix’, a modern take on the song from the 1954 Guru Dutt classic Aar Paar.

Her popularity opened doors in Bollywood, where she made a special appearance in ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’ (2004), starring Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Priyanka Chopra. She later appeared in the Kannada film ‘Hudugaru’ (2011), in the song ‘Naa Board Irada Bus’.

Shefali also featured in several dance and reality shows, including ‘Boogie Woogie’ (2008), ‘Nach Baliye 5’ (2012–2013), and ‘Nach Baliye 7’ (2015–2016). However, it was her stint in ‘Bigg Boss 13’, hosted by Salman Khan, that brought her widespread fame among a new generation of viewers.

Her most recent television appearance was in ‘Shaitani Rasmein’ (2024), which premiered on Kanuary 15, 2024 on Star Bharat and is available digitally on JioCinema.

In an interview with ETimes TV, Shefali spoke openly about her health struggles, revealing that she had her first epileptic seizure at the age of 15. She linked her condition to stress and anxiety and said that consistent exercise helped her stay seizure-free and cope with depression.
