He emphasised that peaceful conditions have gradually returned in the state with no major incident reported in the past 7–8 months.
With the clamour for a popular government growing in Manipur as the state will complete six months under President’s Rule on August 13, former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh today said that the BJP and NDA legislators are holding regular meetings to expedite the formation of a popular government in the state.
The state has been under President’s Rule since February 13, 2025 and the Manipur Assembly under animated suspension, four days after Chief Minister Biren Singh resigned amid widespread violence in the state. As per the Constitution, a state Assembly can be under animated suspension under President’s Rule for a maximum period of 3 years with extensions granted by the President every six months. Further extensions can happen if the Election Commission feels elections cannot be held in the state dur to certain reasons.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP office in Imphal, N. Biren Singh said, “Considering the ground situation and the public’s growing demand, BJP and NDA MLAs are actively engaging and have submitted a proposal to Centre to restore a popular covernment in the state.”
He emphasised that peaceful conditions have gradually returned in the state with no major incident reported in the past 7–8 months.
Singh praised the efforts of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that the Centre is “working day and night” to bring about a permanent and amicable solution to the ongoing crisis. He reiterated that the focus remains on resolving the current crisis through dialogue and coordination with central authorities.
“We are committed to addressing the issues and restoring normalcy. Formation of a popular government is the need of the hour,” he said.
With political consultations intensifying and public demand for elected governance growing stronger, the BJP-led NDA is expected to push for a breakthrough in the days ahead.
