BRO Builds Three Key Bridges to Restore Connectivity in North Sikkim

At Sanklang, the BRO is building a modular bridge across the mighty Teesta River under extremely high-flow conditions and unstable slopes.
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is actively constructing three critical bridges under Project Swastik to restore vital connectivity in the disaster-prone and strategically important region of North Sikkim. These bridge projects, located at Sanklang, Ritchu Nallah, and 6th Mile Dzongu, are essential for both civilian movement and military logistics.
At Sanklang, the BRO is building a modular bridge across the mighty Teesta River under extremely high-flow conditions and unstable slopes. This structure will provide much-needed redundancy to the Mangan–Chungthang corridor, re-establishing access to Dzongu and further beyond to Lachen and Lachung.
In one of the most treacherous landslide-prone zones, the BRO is constructing a Bailey bridge at Ritchu Nallah. The team is carrying out slope stabilisation and protection works while battling continuous rainfall. Once completed, this bridge will serve as a safer, alternative route for both civilian and military vehicles, easing travel in the region.
At 6th Mile Dzongu, the BRO is constructing a long-pending bridge over the Khankha River at Km 15 on the Sanklang–Sakying Pantong Road. Delayed for more than a decade due to tough terrain and logistical hurdles, this bridge will finally connect residents of Upper Dzongu with essential services and open up new economic opportunities.
Despite facing harsh weather, steep terrain, and tough working conditions, BRO personnel are showing relentless dedication and exceptional engineering skills. These bridges are not just physical structures, they symbolise resilience, unity, and the country’s commitment to its border communities.
