What Sudip Roy Barman said was 100% correct, said Dr Vikrant Bhuria

In a dramatic escalation of political blows in Tripura, All India Adivasi Congress chairman Dr Vikrant Bhuria has played a video clip that he claimed showed a BJP leader urinating on a tribal man in Madhya Pradesh, reportedly during the tenure of then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Dr Bhuria come out in strong defence of senior Tripura Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, presenting the video clip to substantiate Barman’s explosive allegation that “BJP leaders urinate on tribals.”

Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan in Agartala today, Dr Bhuria, MLA from Madhya Pradesh said that the incident occurred about one and a half years ago.

“This is how the government is. This is how they are looting people and torturing tribals. It’s a gang,” Bhuria said, condemning the BJP’s attempts to target Sudip Roy Barman after his remarks.

Bhuria alleged that former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan tried to cover up the incident by forcibly taking the tribal victim to Bhopal and offering monetary compensation and a house to his wife. He claimed the woman rejected the offer, saying she only wanted her husband back.

“We have seen how their family was tortured. Shivraj Singh Chauhan kidnapped the man and took him to Bhopal. The wife and children were crying, saying they didn’t know where their husband and father were. Then he told the wife of the man that he would give her a house and money and that she did not need to worry as her husband was with him. But she said, ‘I don’t want money or a house. I want my husband back. Today we have shown the proof on video. What Sudip Roy Barman said was 100% correct,” Bhuria added.

Reacting sharply to the protest by BJP’s tribal wing Janajati Morcha, who vandalised the gates of the old MLA hostel at Radhanagar in Agartala where Roy Barman resides and demanded his resignation, Bhuria said, “What Sudip Roy Barman has done is exposed the real face of BJP. The party is trying to silence him under pressure, but this move has backfired. Now, people will know the truth about how a BJP leader treated a tribal person and what kind of party this truly is.”

The video-backed defence by the Adivasi Congress leader has further intensified the political slugfest in Tripura, where tensions remain high following the BJP wing’s aggressive protests against the Congress MLA.
