Over 1000 Trucks Stranded, Over 1000 Kgs of Broiler Chicken Dead, as Landslide in Dima Hasao Snaps Only Road-Rail Routes Connecting Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur with Rest of India

Landslide in Dima Hasao: Stranded drivers of the trucks are facing immense hardship with very little food and water.
A massive landslide and continuous slipping of earth near Jatinga-Lampur in Assam’s Dima Hasao district since June 23 has caused major disruption, blocking both the Lumding-Silchar road and the Lumding-Badarpur rail route thereby snapping connectivity not only with Dima Hasao and entire Barak Valley in Assam but also cutting off Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur from Assam and the rest of India.
The situation for Barak Valley is critical as NH 6, another road route connecting the region is also blocked due to landslides, therefore Barak Valley with a population of over 45 lakh remains marooned.
Almost 1000 trucks carrying food and essentials for the region are stranded and at least 1000 Kg of broiler chicken died due to heat.
Stranded drivers of the trucks are facing immense hardship with very little food and water.
While road connectivity is totally disrupted, following trains have been cancelled: 15611 RNY-SCL, 15612 SCL-RNY, 15615 GHY-SCL, 15616 SCL-GHY, 15888 GHY-BPB, 15887 BPB-GHY, 14038 NDLS-SCL, 12503 SMVB-AGTL
Partially Cancelled/Short-Terminated: 15625 DGHR-AGTL, 13173 SDAH-SBRM, 12516 SCL-CBE, 13176 SCL-SDAH, 12502 AGTL-KOAA
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Railways have been directed to deploy technical experts to assess slope stability and implement corrective measures to prevent further landslides. Debris clearance operations are underway to restore connectivity as soon as possible. But it will take at least 2-3 days for the routes to be cleared.
Point to be noted is that Jatinga-Lampur is the stretch that was hit by landslide last year too leading to major road and rail disruption and goods trains movement was disrupted for several days hampering supply of rice and other essentials and fuel particularly to Mizoram and Tripura.
