Ground reports are stating that water is being constantly supplied into the blowout site to cool off to cool off the impact.
Thirteen days and counting. The gas blowout crisis continues at the ONGC well number RDS#147A in Assam’s Sivasagar district. The ONGC continues to make progress at the site of well, with teams working round the clock despite challenging weather conditions.
As per latest reports, significant improvement has been made with regards to capping the gas blowout site. Ground reports are stating that water is being constantly supplied into the blowout site to cool off to cool off the impact.
As per the ONGC statement of June 23, high tech equipment such as Athey Wagon and Bulldozers are being used in the capping operations which are proving to be signficantly useful though full capping has not happened yet. Both the ONGC and the American experts teams are working relentlessly to cap the gas blowout.
Rains are causing some difficulty in the capping work. As floodwaters rise, ONGC teams are actively working to keep the critical RCMT pump operational. Inputs suggest there is a noticeable reduction in gas pressure has been recorded.
“The extra-long boom crane, essential for safely removing tubings stacked in the rig derrick, has reached the well site from Guwahati. Its arrival marks a crucial step forward in clearing the rig from the well for the final capping operation. Heavy and continuous rainfall created a slushy work environment, yet ONGC’s Regional Crisis Management Team (RCMT), along with international experts from Cudd Pressure Control, remained fully engaged. Their persistent efforts are ensuring that the clearing of the remaining rig equipment continues without pause,” the ONGC statement said.
Since Friday, a three-member team of well control specialists from Cudd Well Control, USA, have been engaged with the ONGC team to control the gas blowout.
The blowout has led to the evacuation of nearly 350 families, now housed in relief camps, as authorities race against time to stabilise the situation.
