In a significant development in the Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi murder case in Meghalaya, one more person identified as Lokendra Singh Tomar has been arrested by Gwalior Police today following a request from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Meghalaya Police probing the case.
Lokendra Singh Tomar, is a resident of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. He is the landlord of the flat at Dewas Naka in Indore where Sonam Raghuvanshi took shelter while evading arrest after killing her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, on May 23 in Sohra, Meghalaya, just 12 days after their wedding on May 11. They were in Sohra on their honeymoon.
She killed her husband Raja with the help of 3 accomplices and under the guidance of her lover, Raj Kushwaha.
Lokendra Singh Tomar is accused of destroying and concealing materials and evidence crucial to the ongoing investigation.
According to SIT sources, the accused had initially fled from Madhya Pradesh for Uttarakhand on June 16, 2025, and later travelled to Gwalior on June 22. Based on credible intelligence, he was traced and detained in Gwalior today.
A splinter team of the SIT is currently en route from Indore to Gwalior to formally arrest Tomar.
He is expected to be produced before a local court in Gwalior for transit remand.
It may be mentioned here that the SIT team has arrested two more suspects from Indore, Silome James, a property dealer, and Balbir Ahirbar, a security guard-cum-carpenter on Sunday in connection with the ongoing probe into the high-profile murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.
Authorities have confirmed that all 3 accused persons, including Tomar, are likely to be brought to Shillong by Wednesday for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
So far 8 persons have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.
The arrested persons are- Raja’s wife Sonam Raghuvanshi, her lover Raj Kushawaha, Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, Anand Kurme, Silome James, Balbir Ahirbar and Lokendra Singh Tomar.
Currently, Sonam and Raj are under 13-day judicial custody and Vishal, Akash and Anand are in 14 day-judicial custody.
Raja Raghuvanshi was murdered on May 23. He was hit with two machetes by Vishal, Akash and Anand while Sonam was standing in front of Raja. Then they threw the body into a deep gorge near Weisawdong Falls at the Riat Arliang parking lot in Umblai, Sohra.
Raja’s body was found in semi-decomposed state by the Shillong Police on June 2.
Meanwhile, Sonam was missing, but what began as a missing person case soon escalated into a homicide investigation, with Sonam emerging as the prime suspect.
A major breakthrough in the case came with the arrest of Akash Rajput on June 8. Following his interrogation, police began closing in on the main conspirators. In a dramatic turn, Sonam, who had been untraceable, suddenly surfaced in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh on June 9 and surrendered before police. Her emergence led to her immediate arrest and shed light on her suspected role in orchestrating the murder.
During interrogation, Sonam confessed that she, along with her 21-year-old alleged lover Raj Kushwaha an employee at her father’s factory conspired to kill Raja.
The attack was carried out by Vishal, Akash, and Anand. During the recreation of the crime scene, police stated that Raja was ambushed and struck from multiple directions, leading to his death.
Police are now examining digital records, call logs, and financial transactions to map out the conspiracy in full.
