Tripura joins Mizoram and Goa, the first and second states respectively to attain full literacy status under the ULLAS framework.

In a proud moment for the people of Tripura, the state has been declared a ‘Fully Literate State’, becoming the third in India and the second in the Northeast to achieve this significant milestone today after having achieved 96.5% literacy rate, an increased from 20.24% in 1961.

The announcement was made at a ceremony held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, marking a historic leap in the state’s educational journey.

This achievement comes as a result of the successful implementation of the New India Literacy Programme Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society (ULLAS), launched in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The programme has played a crucial role in reaching adult learners and previously illiterate citizens across Tripura.

Tripura joins Mizoram and Goa, the first and second states respectively to attain full literacy status under the ULLAS framework.

Mizoram leads with a literacy rate of 98.2%, followed by Goa with 95%, as per data from Elets Technomedia.

Mizoram was the first Indian state to be declared fully literate under the ULLAS – Nav Bharat Karyakram (NILP) initiative, setting a benchmark for others to follow.
With this achievement, Tripura reinforces the Northeast’s growing reputation as a leader in literacy and education in India.
