Assam Rifles Bust Wildlife Smuggling Racket, Seize Tiger Parts Near Indo-Myanmar Border in Mizoram

In a major breakthrough, the Assam Rifles on Sunday seized three tiger teeth worth approximately Rs 4.5 lakh from near the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram’s Siaha district

According to a release issued by HQ IGAR (East), acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding movement of contraband items, troops of the Assam Rifles set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) on Tuipang-Zawngling Road.

On June 22 at approximately 11:30 AM, the troops stopped a suspicious individual at the checkpoint. On thoroughly searching the person, the team recovered the teeth, 150 grams of gunpowder, and seven shotgun cartridge primers.

The individual has been identified as K T Beirahu, a resident of Siaha, Mizoram.

Assam Rifles handed over the apprehended person along with the recovered items to Tuipang Police Station in Siaha district for further investigation and legal action.
