In a shocking twist just like straight out of a movie, a teenage girl believed to have died and cremated on June 17 in Raha, Nagaon in Assam has been found alive.
The dramatic story began on June 11 when Pinky Das, a teenager from Nagaon, ran away from home after a quarrel with her family. Stranded on a national highway, she was offered a lift by a truck driver named Rahul Singh from Uttar Pradesh, who took her to Guwahati and dropped her off at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT).
At the ISBT, Pinky met two of her friends and spent the day with them, only to flee again from their residence.
Eventually, she met an auto driver, Samarjit Dolley, who moved by her condition, took her to his sister Pompi Dolley’s home in Gotanagar area of Guwahati and sheltered her. Acting on a tip-off, the police later recovered Pinky from that location.
However, this discovery has now thrown a major twist in an ongoing death investigation.
On June 16, a decomposed body of a girl was found near Diphlu stream adjacent to a Shiva temple in Nagaon.
The following day, Pinky’s family identified the body based on a mole on the foot and conducted her last rites on June 17.
With Pinky now alive, the question arises, whose body was cremated on June 17?
To unravel this, Nagaon police have initiated DNA testing to determine the true identity of the deceased girl.
It may be mentioned here that 5 persons 3 from Nagaon and 2 from Guwahati have also been arrested by Nagaon Police in connection with the body recovery. All five are currently in judicial custody.
What initially appeared to be a tragic case of a missing teen has now turned into a puzzling case of mistaken identity.
