The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a corruption case against 10 accused individuals, including the then Deputy General Manager (Medical Services) and a Contractual Medical Officer (Occupational Health) of ONGC, Jorhat, along with proprietors of eight private medical shops.

According to a release issued by the CBI on Wednesday, the accused public servants allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy with the owners of empanelled medical shops and unknown others between 2019 and 2022.

The CBI stated, “It was alleged that the proprietors of the eight empanelled medical shops submitted fake and bogus bills amounting to ₹45,00,000 based on forged requisition slips for medicines. These were issued without the knowledge or consent of ONGC beneficiaries and their dependents.”

The agency conducted multiple searches at the residential premises of all the accused across different locations. The CBI confirmed that these raids led to the recovery of several incriminating documents that could be key to the ongoing investigation.

The release said, “The accused manipulated the system to siphon off funds meant for genuine medical needs. We are examining the extent of the fraud and identifying more individuals who may be involved.”

The case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act. The investigation is ongoing.
