With every passing day, fresh twists, new names are emerging in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. With the arrest of Raj Kushwaha and Sonam Raghuvanshi as the key conspirators and three others also in police custody, it all seemed like the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case has almost been solved. But now it appears there is much more to the murder plot.
First Jitendra Raghuvanshi emerged as the mystery, today sources revealed that Sonam was to marry Mayank Raghuvanshi, and now police are talking about another mystery man Sanjay Verma. That is not all. There are more names which are now under the scanner.
Twenty-six days after Raja Raghuvanshi was killed in Sohra by his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raj and 3 others, the spotlight has now turned on Sanjay Verma. So, who is Sanjay Verma, and what was his connection with Sonam Raghuvanshi? Like Raj Kushwaha is he also an employee in Sonam’s father’s factory? Why did he and Sonam call eachother 119 times just months before Raja was killed?
According to reliable police sources, Sanjay Verma is now under the police’s scanner and is being seen as a crucial link in the case after call records revealed that he and Sonam exchanged 119 phone calls between March 1 and March 25. Sanjay’s mobile phone has since been switched off, prompting the Meghalaya Police to launch a focused search operation in Indore, where Sanjay is believed to reside.
“Who is Sanjay Verma? Why was he in such frequent contact with Sonam? Did he work in Sonam’s father’s factory?” These are the pressing questions now driving the next phase of investigation. A senior police official speaking to Northeast Live, confirmed, “We need to interrogate Sonam again. The case has now shifted to Indore. Sanjay Verma may hold important clues.”
Meghalaya Police has revealed that Sonam destroyed her mobile after the murder, and only one of Raja’s phones has been recovered. Investigators are trying to trace a second phone that Sonam is suspected to have used till she surface in Ghazipur.
Police are also investigating a possible connection between Sonam and Jitendra Raghuvanshi, a name that surfaced in financial dealings. It is suspected that Sonam was managing or “maintaining” an account linked to him, raising the possibility of a monetary motive behind the murder.
Investigators further confirmed that Raja’s gold and diamond valuables are still missing. Interesting to note that, none of the accused have any prior criminal records. However, police are not ruling out a “meeting of minds” scenario where monetary interest and emotional manipulation may have driven the conspirators to commit the crime.
Authorities are also trying to trace Ujwala Yadav, a woman who was coincidentally seated next to Sonam during a bus journey from Varanasi to Ghazipur. “We don’t know yet if the travel was by chance or intentional. It needs to be verified,” a police official stated.
In another development, Meghalaya Police confirmed Sonam had taken a night bus from Guwahati to Siliguri, boarding from ISBT Guwahati after the murder. Police teams are now combing through CCTV footage and ticket records from ISBT Paltan Bazaar, working closely with Guwahati Police to track her movements.
Investigators are also seeking to question Devi Singh, a man who uploaded two videos on social media believed to hold critical information related to the case.
As the murder probe deepens and new characters keep entering the frame, one thing is clear, the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi is far from a simple case of betrayal and murder. It is an evolving tale of secrets, deception, and possible premeditated conspiracy, where every new day reveals a darker layer of truth.
Meanwhile, Sonam remains in custody along with four other accused – Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurme – all of whom will be produced in court again tomorrow as police will be seeking an extension of remand for a through investigation.
