Affectionately called Neonu by her mother, Lamnunthem’s return will be marked with profound love, sorrow, and community solidarity.
In a deeply heartbreaking development, the DNA report of Air India crash victim Lamnunthem Singson has confirmed her identity this morning, bringing both closure and fresh waves of grief to her devastated family and community.
Authorities officially notified her family, who are currently in Ahmedabad, anxiously awaiting the final procedures to bring her body home. According to family sources, preparations are underway to transport the remains from Ahmedabad to Dimapur as early as tomorrow morning, though the exact flight schedule has not yet been confirmed.
Her body has been kept in a hospital in Ahmedabad for necessary documentation. The news has sent a wave of sorrow through Kangpokpi, her hometown, where preparations are in full swing to receive their beloved daughter — a cabin crew member of Air India and a shining symbol of inspiration for many.
Affectionately called Neonu by her mother, Lamnunthem’s return will be marked with profound love, sorrow, and community solidarity.
A joint meeting of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Kangpokpi has resolved that the Kuki Students’ Organization (KSO) Sadar Hills will take the lead in receiving her body at Dimapur Airport. The organization will then escort her remains with dignity along National Highway 2 to Kangpokpi.
Once in Kangpokpi, the community under the aegis of the Kangpokpi Town Committee will receive her forming a human chain till her home with candle light vigil, with the Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills and Kuki Women Union Sadar Hills set to offer a solemn and emotional welcome at her residence. The town authorities will then oversee the official condolence ceremony in her honour.
Condolence banners have begun appearing throughout Kangpokpi District Headquarters as CSOs, friends, and residents mourn the tragic loss.
Adding to the poignancy, one of Lamnunthem’s close friends from London shared a heartbreaking memory — the two had planned to visit Manchester United’s iconic Old Trafford stadium upon her arrival in the UK. As a passionate fan of the club, it was a dream Lamnunthem held close. “It’s a dream we will never fulfil now,” the friend said, their voice choked with emotion.
Lamnunthem Singson was more than just a professional in the skies — she was a daughter, a friend, and a beacon of hope for many in her community. Her untimely departure has left a void no words can fill.
As Kangpokpi braces to receive its fallen star, the community’s strength and unity shine through — determined to honour Neonu’s memory with the love and respect she so deeply deserves.
