Outrage in Imphal West After Body of Missing Differently-Abled Man Found Buried Near Riverbank

Additional SP of Imphal West, Gaurav Dogra said 9 people have been arrested in connection to the case so far

A wave of anger and grief swept through Imphal West in Manipur today after the body of a missing differently-abled man was found buried near the banks of the Nambul River near Samurou Maning in Imphal West district early this morning, a week after his disappearance.

Additional SP of Imphal West, Gaurav Dogra said, “During further investigation of the case, it was revealed that the person has already died and was buried somewhere. This morning the body was exhumed in the presence of a forensic team, family members and executive magistrate.”

Gaurav Dogra also said that an FIR has already been registered and 9 people have been arrested in connection to the case and efforts are underway to identify other accused and arrest them.

The Additional SP of Imphal West also urged the public to cooperate with the district police to speed up the investigation.

The victim identified as 29-year-old Chesam Abdul Kadir, had been missing since June 10 and the shocking discovery of his body today triggered mass protests, and allegations of foul play.

Inputs suggest that Kadir went missing on the night of June 10. During a frantic search, the family received information that a person had been detained on charges of theft charges at Yumnam Huidrom Mayai Lambi College Community Hall.

However, his whereabouts remained unknown.

This morning around 6 AM, police informed the family that Abdul Kadir’s body had been discovered buried near the riverbank.

The gruesome discovery triggered mass outrage. Locals and family members blocked roads demanding justice.

The protesters was later dispersed by security forces using tear gas shells.
