Meghalaya DGP Drops Bombshell, Says Love Angle May Not be Only Motive Behind Raja Rajhuvanshi’s Murder. Is the DGP Hinting at Hawala Angle?

Raja Rajhuvanshi’s Murder: DGP’s statement comes amid reports which said that Sonam was in love with Raj Kushwaha & both plotted the murder.

Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang today dropped a bombshell of sorts when she said that she is not convinced with the love angle in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. She thinks it could be family business (is the DGP hinting at a hawala angle?) or personal rivaly that got Raja Raghuvanshi killed in Sohra just 12 days after getting married.

“In my personal opinion, I still find it very difficult to accept the motive that has been given by the accused. And it doesn’t sit very well. But we are looking to see whether there is anything additional. I find it very difficult to believe that a person would generate so much of animosity within a couple of days of marriage; literally for you to plot to kill the person. So the love angle is little doubtful on the surface,” DGP Nongrang told Northeast Live in Shillong.

Meghalaya DGP’s statement comes amid reports which said that Sonam was in love with Raj Kushwaha and both plotted the murder of Raja together, it was Raj and three others who killed Raja in Sohra in the presence of Sonam during Raja and Sonam’s so-called honeymoon. Certain reports also said that Sonam had warned her mother of consequences if she was forced to marry Raja.

Nongrang said that it’s still a developing situation, investigation is still on and Sonam, Raj and 3 others are being questioned.

“It can be family business, it can be personal rivalry. It could be a combination. So a further inquiry is required to draw a conclusion.” The DGP added that all the accused are giving contradictory statements. So at this stage the interrogation has not reached a final stage. Presently, all the accused have been kept separately and are being interrogated separately.

Nongrang further said that Meghalaya Police is likely to take all the five accused to Sohra on Tuesday and recreate the crime scene. Significantly, the 8-day police remand of all 5 accused including mastermind, Raj Kushwaha and Sonam Rahhuvanshi is ending on Wednesday.

Nograng said that, police will seek for additional custody when the police remand ends on 18 June. “The Investigating Officer would be presenting to the court the grounds for additional police custody. I am quite confident that we will get that”, said Nongrang.

Rescting to reports and social media posts maligning the image of Sohra as a hotspot of criminal activities, the Meghalaya DGP said that Sohra has a track record of being one of the most crime free locations in Meghalaya.

“In fact, I would like to place on record, the Sora police station under which jurisdiction this crime had taken place has the lowest crime rate. In Sohra Police Station, there has been no record of any murder taking place. You would know very well that basically the Khasi, Garo people are not inherently violent. So this theory about crime prone area should have been checked before defaming the place”, said Nograng.

Significantly, the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi has shocked the nation due to its chilling planning and dramatic developments.
